A tinted street view looks south down 19th Street from its corner at 4th Avenue, with tall brick commercial blocks lining both sides, awnings shading the sidewalks, horse-drawn wagons and a streetcar in the roadway, and a tower-topped building rising at the left. Birmingham was still a young city in the 1900s, built on iron and steel, and 19th Street served as its principal retail and office thoroughfare. The only message on the card is a brief line from Papa to Miss Charlotte Bassett in Amesbury, Massachusetts.
