Welcome to PostalPast. These terms govern your use of postalpast.com and the archive of antique and vintage postcards it hosts. PostalPast is operated by Fungal Sciences, LLC, d/b/a PostalPast, a Virginia limited liability company, Lynchburg, Virginia ("we", "us"). By using the site you agree to these terms.

The archive

PostalPast displays scans and transcriptions of antique and vintage postcards for historical, genealogical, and educational research. Cards are acquired by purchase or donation and preserved as historical record.

Copyright and reuse

Most postcards in the archive were produced before 1930 and are in the public domain in the United States. Cards published later may be protected by copyright depending on their notice, renewal, and publication circumstances; our treatment of each card reflects a good-faith assessment, not a legal guarantee.

You are welcome to use images and transcriptions from the archive for research, teaching, and publication, with a citation. For high-resolution scans, contact us; we provide them at no cost for research and educational use with credit, and can discuss commercial use.

If you believe material in the archive infringes a copyright you hold, contact us at [email protected] with the details and we will review and, where a claim holds up, remove or restrict the material.

Citations

Every card has a stable page you can link to and cite. Suggested citation text is provided on each card page.

Accuracy

Transcriptions, dates, places, and identifications are prepared with care but are historical interpretation, not certainties. We correct errors promptly when pointed out. The archive is provided as-is without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Acceptable use

You agree not to scrape or bulk-download the archive in a way that degrades service for others, not to misrepresent the provenance of materials, and not to use the site for any unlawful purpose.

Contact form

Messages sent through the contact form or by email may be kept as correspondence. Do not send us confidential information you do not want stored.

Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, PostalPast and Fungal Sciences, LLC are not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from use of the site. Nothing here limits liability we cannot legally limit.

Changes and governing law

We may update these terms; material changes will be noted on this page with a new date. These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States.
