2nd Avenue and 19th Street looking east, Birmingham, Alabama, 1907

About this postcard

Looking east along 2nd Avenue from its intersection with 19th Street in Birmingham, Alabama, with streetcar tracks running down the center of the unpaved roadway, pedestrians and horse-drawn vehicles along the curbs, and multi-story brick commercial blocks lining both sides; a taller office building rises in the middle distance. The view is printed on a card made expressly for the R. D. Burnett Cigar Co., a Birmingham firm, and reflects the era when 2nd Avenue North served as the city's principal wholesale and retail business street. Awnings, storefront signs and overhead wires fill the scene.
