A Cheerful Easter card with cross, Buffalo, NY, 1909

About this postcard

The card shows a large white cross outlined in gold against a brown ground. Inside the cross is a small landscape of water, low buildings, and bare trees under a dawn or sunset sky. Sprays of blue forget-me-nots with pink buds twine around the cross. Easter postcards of the period often paired Christian symbols with spring flowers, and forget-me-nots were a common emblem of remembrance. Amanda R. mailed the card from Buffalo, New York, to a soldier at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana, hoping the Easter rabbit would be good to him "being from home" and promising to eat her own rabbit to his health.
