About this postcard
The card shows "A MERRY CHRISTMAS" in gold lettering above purple flowers and evergreen sprigs, with two horseshoes below framing a man's and a woman's clasped hands. Horseshoes and clasped hands were common good-luck and friendship emblems on holiday cards of the period, and the embossed floral ornament on a silver ground follows the same decorative taste. The only writing on the card is a short note, "to Buddy from Helen," with no address or postmark, so it likely passed hand to hand or traveled inside an envelope. German lithographers printed most of the Christmas cards sold in the United States in the years before World War I.
