A Texan's Map of the United States, Texas, circa 1942

About this postcard

A comic map headed "A TEXAN'S MAP OF THE UNITED STATES," drawn from a Texan's point of view: Texas swells to fill most of the continent while the other states are squeezed into slivers and tagged with punning labels such as "Mint Soda" for Minnesota and "Misery" for Missouri. Texas cities, San Antonio among them, sit inside the state's oversized borders, and the Gulf of Mexico is renamed the "Gulf of Texas." Exaggerated-state comic maps were a steady seller in American postcard publishing, and this one leans on Texas's reputation for sheer size.
