A two-story clapboard house with a wraparound porch stands among mature shade trees at Abbott's Shady Lodge, a roadside lodging on Route 63 south of Oskaloosa. Wooden benches and an early automobile sit in the yard, and a small cabin or outbuilding appears at right. The caption's "MODERN CABINS" advertises the kind of auto-touring stop that became common in the 1920s, when motorists looked for simple cabins and shade along the highway.
White border; sepia-toned real-photo postcard; printed text in image.
No postmark. Divided-back real-photo postcard, glossy surface with white border; dealer pencil note "RMLT #300" in upper right of back; light staining lower right. Front (context only) imprinted "ABBOTT'S SHADY LODGE MODERN CABINS OSKALOOSA, IOWA RT. 63 SOUTH" and "KRUGER CHICAGO".
