The Adams House in Waltham, Massachusetts, a large multi-story hotel with a dark ground floor and lighter upper stories, partly screened by shade trees. A lawn and the street run across the foreground.
Waltham in the first years of the 1900s was a factory city, known for the Waltham Watch Company and for the cotton mills that had grown up along the Charles River. A downtown hotel like the Adams House lodged traveling salesmen, mill visitors, and other guests doing business in town.
