About this postcard

A two-story white clapboard administration building stands behind a low white fence and brick gateposts topped with ball finials. Three dormer windows and a central chimney break the roofline, while bare deciduous trees and a large evergreen frame the yard. Patches of snow or pale ground cover suggest a winter day. Brandeis University opened in Waltham in 1948 on the grounds of the former Middlesex University, founded as a non-sectarian institution under Jewish sponsorship. The view catches the school in its first years, when a small faculty and student body were settling into the older campus buildings.
