About this postcard
View across the water toward the steel truss Aerial Bridge at the entrance to Duluth-Superior Harbor, with its suspended transfer car hanging beneath the span. A small lighthouse, a low building on the left pier, and shoreline houses stand against an orange and blue sky. The bridge was a transporter span completed in 1905; its car carried passengers and vehicles across the Duluth Ship Canal, and the high truss let lake ships pass below. The printed caption records a 393-foot 9-inch span, 135 feet above the water line, and a cost of $100,000.
