Aerial view over Ashland, Wisconsin, on Chequamegon Bay. The town's grid of streets, houses, and commercial blocks fills the foreground, with coal docks at the left and long ore docks at the right reaching into the water. A low shoreline of hills lies across the bay. More than four million tons of ore are handled here each year, and tourists watch ore freighters load. Ashland was a busy Lake Superior shipping point for iron ore and coal.
