About this postcard

An aerial view of the Greater Cincinnati Airport, with intersecting runways and taxiways spreading across flat green fields and the terminal area at lower right. The caption places the field in Boone County, Kentucky, and notes 928 acres, four 5,500-foot hard-surfaced runways, and a CAA control tower built to handle the largest transport planes in regular service. The airport opened in the late 1940s as Cincinnati's main commercial field, replacing the flood-prone Lunken Airport across the Ohio River. The broad layout and federal tower reflect the postwar growth of commercial air travel.
