About this postcard
An elevated, bird's-eye view looks across the broad Connecticut River as it curves past Holyoke, Massachusetts, with wooded banks, islands and open fields in the middle distance and a dense cluster of city buildings along the lower edge. The printed caption names the scene as Holyoke and the Connecticut River. Holyoke grew in the nineteenth century as one of New England's great planned mill towns, its dam and canals powering paper and textile mills along this stretch of the river.
