About this postcard

An aerial view of the Natural Bridge in Rockbridge County, Virginia, with the limestone arch at lower left and a hotel complex with red roofs set among wooded hills and landscaped grounds. The arch measures 90 feet long, 100 feet wide on average, 215 feet high, and 40 feet thick, with Cedar Creek flowing beneath it. George III granted 157 acres including the bridge to Thomas Jefferson on July 5, 1774. Jefferson, who once owned the site, called it 'the most sublime of Nature's works.'
