About this postcard

An elevated view looks over North Beach, the resort strip on Corpus Christi Bay opposite downtown, where a grid of low bathhouses, pavilions, cottages, and commercial buildings runs behind a wide sandy shore. Long wooden piers and a breakwater reach into the water, and sailboats and small craft dot the bay. The printed caption promotes the "many miles of hard sand beaches" as a setting for outdoor sports, with water "safe for bathing" and "good fishing" for all. North Beach grew in the early 20th century as the city's seaside bathing and amusement district; the 1919 hurricane devastated the area, and the resort rebuilt in the decades that followed.
