About this postcard
An aerial view looks down over the town of Provincetown, Massachusetts, its densely packed rooftops set between wooded dunes and the curving harbor, where long timber piers with red-roofed sheds reach into the water and a steamer lies alongside. The tall granite shaft at left is the Pilgrim Monument, completed in 1910 to commemorate the Mayflower Pilgrims' first landing and five weeks' stay at Provincetown in 1620. The piers and wharves reflect Provincetown's long reliance on fishing and coastal steamer traffic before tourism became its main trade.
