About this postcard

An elevated aerial view looks east along the National Mall from the Lincoln Memorial toward the United States Capitol, with the long Reflecting Pool, tree-lined lawns, and the Capitol's dome and grounds visible at the right. The Mall's formal axis, laid out in the 1902 McMillan Plan, links the Lincoln Memorial (dedicated 1922) with the Capitol, and the reflecting pool and flanking rows of trees shown here became the setting for many national gatherings and demonstrations. The card's bright, hand-colored palette and visible fabric-like texture are typical of mid-century linen postcards.
