Agricultural fair grounds grandstand with ox teams, Amesbury, Massachusetts, circa 1906

About this postcard

A halftone view of the fair grounds at Amesbury, Massachusetts, showing a large wooden grandstand building with a balcony and a banner reading "...FAIR" across its facade, while teams of oxen and horse-drawn wagons and carriages crowd the ground in front of it. The card's own caption names the site as the Agricultural Fair Grounds, and the printed copyright line credits photographer Annie E. Webster with the 1906 image. County and town agricultural fairs of this era centered on livestock judging, harness racing and exhibition halls, and this scene captures the animal teams arriving on the grounds.
