About this postcard
An aerial view looks down over the dense downtown of Asheville, North Carolina, with its grid of commercial blocks, a domed courthouse-like building and taller office towers, ringed by the green slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains under a pale sunset sky. The card's own caption bills the city as being "In the Land of the Sky," a promotional nickname popularized for Asheville in the late nineteenth century. Asheville grew as a railroad and resort town and by the 1920s had a substantial Art Deco and Beaux-Arts downtown, much of which survives today.
