About this postcard

An aerial photograph looks down on the small Polk County town of Winter Haven, Florida, with its grid of streets, low buildings and surrounding citrus groves, while several of the area's lakes spread across the background. The printed caption names the view and notes the 'numerous lakes' for which the town is known; Winter Haven lies in Florida's lake region and later became the home of Cypress Gardens, opened in 1936 as a botanical garden and water-ski show. The chain of lakes seen here is part of the headwaters of the Peace River.
