About this postcard
An elevated view of Alcova Dam, an earth and rock fill dam set into a natural gap in the cliffs on the North Platte River, about 32 miles southwest of Casper. The reservoir behind it reaches into rocky bays and secluded canyons that wind between the hills. The caption calls the lake a "water playground" for boating, fishing, camping, and picnicking. Alcova Dam was built by the Bureau of Reclamation in the 1930s as part of the Casper-Alcova Project, later renamed the Kendrick Project, and completed in 1938 to store water for irrigation in central Wyoming.
