About this postcard

The view looks toward the gilded retablo of Serra Chapel, where statues stand in arched niches above an altar dressed with white cloth and flowers. A dark metal altar rail crosses the foreground. The chapel is the adobe east range of Mission San Juan Capistrano, founded in 1776 and traditionally known as Father Serra's Church. It is often described as the oldest surviving building in California, and the mission notes its restoration by Msgr. St. John O'Sullivan.
