About this postcard
Passengers in suits and dresses, including a woman in a blue suit and red hat and a young girl, step down a mobile stairway from an American Airlines DC-6. The plane wears the airline's red-stripe livery, and the stair truck repeats the American name and logo. The DC-6 was Douglas's four-engine piston airliner, and American's Blue Ribbon Aircoach was part of the postwar expansion of lower-fare coach travel. Mobile stairs were standard at airfields before enclosed jet bridges, so arriving passengers walked across the tarmac.
