About this postcard
A color-tinted view looks across the Niagara River toward the American Falls, with the great steel arch bridge (the Falls View or Honeymoon Bridge) spanning the gorge above the brink; small figures stand on the rocky shore at lower right. The bridge, a hinged steel arch completed in 1898, carried road and trolley traffic between Niagara Falls, New York, and Ontario until it collapsed in an ice jam in January 1938. Luna Island, the small island between the American and Bridal Veil falls, was a popular vantage point for early tourists and photographers.
