American Falls illuminated at night, Niagara Falls, New York, circa 1940

Card type
Linen

About this postcard

Night view of the American Falls at Niagara Falls, lit by colored floodlights that tint the falling water and the mist rising from the gorge, with a starry sky above. The American Falls is the second-largest of the three waterfalls that make up Niagara Falls, dropping roughly 180 feet on the New York side of the international border. Colored illumination of the falls became a popular evening attraction in the twentieth century and was a favorite subject for mid-century view cards.
