A night view of the American Falls at Niagara Falls, lit by colored floodlights that throw a rainbow band of pink, green and yellow across the falling water and mist, with the dark rock face silhouetted at right. The American Falls is the second-largest of the three waterfalls making up Niagara Falls, on the New York side of the Niagara River. Colored illumination of the falls became a popular spectacle in the 1920s and 1930s and remains a nightly attraction.
