Night view of the American Falls, seen from the Ontario side of the Niagara River and lit by colored floodlights. The falling water glows orange, yellow, green, pink, and blue against dark water and a starry sky. The American Falls drop on the New York side, but the Canadian bank offered a clear view of the illuminated cascade. The floodlights, billed as a billion-candlepower Battery of Lights, made the falls a nighttime tourist attraction by the mid-twentieth century.
