About this postcard

A view of the Niagara River's cataracts, with a broad curtain of falling water on the left, a wooded island dividing the stream, and a second fall at right, all above churning green-white rapids. The scene corresponds to the American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls as seen from the New York shore near Prospect Point, part of Niagara Falls State Park, the oldest state park in the United States, established in 1885. By the early twentieth century the falls had become one of North America's most photographed and postcarded natural wonders.
