The American Falls at Niagara fill most of the view, with a pink-tinted sky above and a small figure holding an umbrella on the grassy bank at lower left. The figure gives a sense of scale to the cataract, a standard stop for tourists visiting the New York side of Niagara in the early twentieth century.
