About this postcard
A distant view across a marshy, weed-choked stretch of the Charles River toward the long brick ranges of the American Waltham Watch Factory, its roofline broken by a tall striped smokestack. A low bridge and tree line close the left horizon under a pale blue sky. The works along the Charles made Waltham one of the watchmaking centers of the world in the early 1900s, and the company had helped pioneer interchangeable parts in watch production. Boston publishers like the one that issued this card catered to a market that treated such factory views as civic attractions.
