About this postcard

A domed, colonnaded limestone monument shelters the grave of Andrew Jackson in the family burying ground at The Hermitage, surrounded by a low iron fence and weathered headstones under dense trees. Jackson, seventh president of the United States, died at The Hermitage in 1845 and was buried in the garden beside his wife Rachel; the classical canopy over the graves was erected later in the 19th century. The plantation house and grounds near Nashville are today a National Historic Landmark operated as a museum.
