The family burying ground at The Hermitage holds the grave of Andrew Jackson, seventh president of the United States, who died at the plantation in 1845 and was buried beside his wife Rachel. A domed, colonnaded limestone monument stands over the Jackson graves, enclosed with other headstones by a low iron fence under dense trees. The Hermitage, Jackson's home near Nashville, is preserved as a historic site and museum.
