Androscoggin River and White Mountains, New Hampshire, 1907

About this postcard

A view down the Androscoggin River toward a large mill with tall smokestacks, a water tower, and a plume of smoke. A truss bridge frames the left side, and the snow-streaked peaks of the White Mountains rise in the distance. Forested riverbanks and the mountain backdrop set off the factory smoke. The works resemble the pulp and paper mills that made the Androscoggin valley around Berlin, New Hampshire, an industrial center in the early 1900s. The scene shows the mix of river scenery and heavy industry common along the valley at the time.
