About this postcard
Two men in hats and outdoor jackets stand among large boulders in a clear, fast-flowing mountain stream, fishing rods in hand, with autumn-tinted hardwoods and a distant blue ridge behind them. The card names the scene as Great Smoky Mountain National Park, the Appalachian parkland along the Tennessee–North Carolina line established in 1934 and dedicated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1940. Sport fishing for native brook trout and stocked rainbow trout in the park's cold mountain streams was, and remains, a popular visitor pastime.
