About this postcard
Two open touring cars climb a curving, stone-walled mountain road cut into a wooded hillside, with a white rail fence along the outer edge of the bend. The caption names the scene as the Mohawk Trail through the Berkshire Hills of northwestern Massachusetts, a scenic highway following an old Native American footpath that was opened to automobile traffic in 1914 and quickly became one of New England's best-known motoring routes. The early open cars and the hand-colored roadside view date the image to the teens or early 1920s.
