About this postcard
Looking east along West Baltimore Street from Liberty Street, the view is dominated on the right by the large, rounded-corner Baltimore & Ohio Railroad general offices building, with lower commercial blocks and a taller office tower receding down the left side of the street. Streetcars run on the tracks in the roadway while pedestrians in early-1900s coats and hats cross the intersection, and a painted wall sign advertising "5 Cigars" marks the corner building at left. The Baltimore & Ohio, chartered in 1827, was the nation's first common-carrier railroad, and its headquarters stood in the heart of Baltimore's downtown business district.
