About this postcard
An infant sits in a wicker chair for a studio portrait, dressed in a voluminous white ruffled dress and looking slightly to the side. The image is framed in an oval vignette against a dark background. The embossed imprint places the studio in Centerville, South Dakota, a small Turner County town settled in the late 19th century. Oval-vignette baby portraits were a common product of small-town American studios in the 1900s and 1910s. The handwritten names Veloa Wellin and Bela Boy, with Oscar in the address panel, suggest the portrait was kept or sent as a family memento.
