Band Shell and Ocean Front, Daytona Beach, Florida, circa 1940

Card type

About this postcard

The view looks down on the Daytona Beach band shell, a tan masonry shell with a great central arch flanked by towers, fronted by broad curving rows of wooden benches and set between an oceanfront street and the wide beach. Bathers, beach umbrellas and parked cars line the sand, with a tall red-roofed hotel and other buildings of the town behind. The Daytona Beach Bandshell was built in the 1930s as a Works Progress Administration project and remains a landmark of the city's oceanfront park, used for concerts and community events.
