About this postcard
A domed wooden bandstand or pavilion stands on a lawn at the right, framed by dense trees and beds of low, colorful flowers in the foreground; the caption names the spot as Crapo Park in Burlington, Iowa. Crapo Park was laid out in the 1890s on high ground above the Mississippi River on land given by the Crapo family, and its landscaped drives, bluffs and Victorian-era structures made it a favorite subject for local postcards. Band concerts in such pavilions were a standard summer entertainment in American city parks of the period.
