About this postcard
A tall, flat-roofed office tower rises above a downtown Kansas City street corner, its brick-and-stone facade set with rows of evenly spaced windows above a rusticated base and arched storefront openings. Small figures and a wagon animate the sidewalk below. The Bank of Commerce Building was one of the commercial blocks that served Kansas City's banks and businesses in the early 1900s, when the city was a busy rail and livestock center. A classmate's note sends greetings "from the west" to a friend back East, a phrase that fits the city's role as a western gateway.
