The Bantam River runs through the Litchfield hills of northwestern Connecticut, shown here as a still stretch of water reflecting wooded banks and low hills. Overhanging branches frame the right foreground, leading the view down the river toward a hazy distant shore. Bantam was a small village in the town of Litchfield, and local river and lake views were common souvenirs in the early 1900s.
