About this postcard
The view from Cadillac Mountain looks down over a rocky, sunlit granite foreground to the wooded shore of Bar Harbor, the scattered Porcupine Islands, and the blue water of Frenchman's Bay. Cadillac Mountain, at about 1,530 feet the highest point on the U.S. Atlantic coast, gives this wide prospect over Mount Desert Island. Much of the island is protected within Acadia National Park, first set aside as Sieur de Monts National Monument in 1916 and renamed Acadia in 1929. The village below was a Gilded Age summer resort; many of its grand cottages and hotels were lost in the 1947 fire. The sender describes the scene as the view a couple of blocks from Charma's home, which served as a headquarters for service men and a gathering point for visitors.
