About this postcard
A high vantage point on Cadillac Mountain looks down over a rocky, sunlit granite foreground toward the wooded shore of Bar Harbor, the scattered Porcupine Islands, and the broad blue water of Frenchman's Bay. Cadillac Mountain, at roughly 1,530 feet the highest point on the eastern seaboard, gives this celebrated view over Mount Desert Island, most of which became Acadia National Park — the first national park east of the Mississippi, established as Sieur de Monts National Monument in 1916 and renamed Acadia in 1929. The village of Bar Harbor below was a fashionable Gilded Age summer resort whose great cottages and hotels were largely lost in the great fire of 1947.
