About this postcard
The view shows Barnard College's main building in Morningside Heights: a long, multi-story facade of evenly spaced windows arranged around a deep central court, with a colonnaded upper storey at the rear, seen from open ground in front. Founded in 1889 as a women's college affiliated with Columbia University, Barnard had settled on this Manhattan campus only a few years before the card was mailed. The sender had just arrived back in "dear old New York" and could not yet say when the next departure would come, so the card went west to friends in Chicago as a quick greeting.
