About this postcard

Two women walk a dirt path through fields and scattered houses near Bass Harbor Bay at McKinley, Maine. The view looks across the water to Western Mountain, the mountain that rises on the western side of Mount Desert Island. McKinley was a village in the town of Tremont, and in the early 1900s the island's quieter southwest shore held a mix of farm lots, modest houses, and working fishing harbor. The grand summer cottages of Bar Harbor lay on the island's other side, but this scene keeps to the everyday coastal setting.
