About this postcard
A dense crowd of beachgoers fills the sand at Far Rockaway Beach, Long Island. Women in long dresses and hats sit beneath umbrellas and parasols, while bathers in dark suits stand or wade near the water. Far Rockaway, at the eastern end of the Rockaway peninsula in Queens, was one of the most popular ocean resorts for New Yorkers in the early 20th century, served by excursion trains and trolleys and lined with bathhouses, pavilions, and hotels. The printed caption promises 'A CONTINUAL ROUND OF PLEASURE ON THE SANDS AT FAR ROCKAWAY BEACH, L.I.'
