About this postcard

A dense crowd of beachgoers fills the sand at Far Rockaway Beach, Long Island, with many women in long dresses and hats seated beneath rented umbrellas and parasols while bathers in dark suits stand or wade near the water. Far Rockaway, at the eastern end of the Rockaway peninsula in Queens, was one of the most popular ocean resorts for New Yorkers in the early 20th century, served by excursion trains and trolleys and lined with bathhouses, pavilions and hotels. The printed caption markets the scene as 'a continual round of pleasure' on the sands.
