About this postcard
A color view of the Battery Park Hotel in Asheville, North Carolina: a rambling Queen Anne-style resort building of red brick and yellow clapboard with a domed corner turret, tall chimneys, gables and a central tower, set on a landscaped lawn with walks, shrubs and a pergola. The original Battery Park Hotel opened in 1886 as Asheville's grandest resort, built by Colonel Frank Coxe on the site of a Civil War earthwork, and George Vanderbilt is said to have stayed there while Biltmore House was under construction. The wooden structure burned in 1924 and was replaced by the present brick hotel on the same site.
