About this postcard

Bathers and sunbathers in mid-century swimsuits relax on broad white sand in front of the Siesta Beach Pavilion, a low open-air structure with palms and a covered walkway. The sky is pink and blue in the evening light. Siesta Key, a barrier island off Sarasota on Florida's Gulf coast, became a resort destination in the 1920s and is known for its fine quartz-white sand. By the 1960s the pavilion served vacationers drawn to the beach and the island's mild Gulf climate.
