About this postcard
A crowded stretch of sand at Miami Beach, framed by tall coconut palms whose fronds arch across a bright blue, cloud-dotted sky; bathers in 1930s–40s swimwear sit, recline and stroll along the shore with the surf behind them. Miami Beach developed as a winter resort from the 1910s onward, and by the linen-postcard era of the 1930s–1950s its oceanfront was one of the most photographed vacation scenes in America. The card presents the classic promotional image of the resort: sun, sand and palms rather than any specific hotel or landmark.
